Software Engineering & AI Intern

Fall 2025 | Remote | 10–15 hours/week | 8–12 weeks

About Us

RecoveryAI is pioneering the future of substance-use and mental health recovery through proactive, predictive artificial intelligence. Our flagship product, Ebby™, is a 24/7 AI companion that continuously analyzes behavioral and contextual data—using predictive modeling, digital phenotyping, and just-in-time adaptive interventions—to deliver the right support at precisely the right time. Rooted in clinical research and authentic lived experience, Ebby™ represents a groundbreaking shift from reactive tracking to proactive intervention, significantly reducing relapse risks and enhancing lifelong recovery.

The Opportunity

Join a fast-moving, mission-driven startup and gain hands-on experience building a first-of-its-kind AI recovery companion. This isn’t a “watch and learn” internship—it’s a chance to directly shape the MVP of a product that could change lives.

You'll work on high-priority features like:

  • Developing the voice and text chat interface with Ebby, powered by the OpenAI SDK and backed by Supabase

  • Implementing AI-powered journaling with dynamic memory and contextual insights

  • Creating personalized coping strategies and guided mindfulness exercises

  • Building simple, functional UI for daily check-ins and mood tracking

  • Ensuring secure authentication and data storage via Supabase

This is a hands-on role where you’ll write real code, solve real problems, and work closely with a small, passionate team of builders, researchers, and designers. You’ll also get a front-row seat to what it takes to bring an AI-powered health product from concept to launch.

Responsibilities

  • Build and refine the core voice and text chat interface using the OpenAI SDK and Supabase

  • Develop AI-powered journaling with contextual memory and real-time feedback

  • Implement personalized coping strategies and guided mindfulness exercises

  • Create functional, user-friendly UI for daily check-ins and mood tracking

  • Manage user authentication and data storage securely via Supabase

  • Participate in weekly team check-ins and async collaboration across product, engineering, and clinical teams

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, HCI, or a related field

  • Comfortable working independently and asynchronously in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Familiarity with Python, JavaScript (React/Node), Supabase, or OpenAI’s API is helpful—but curiosity and self-direction matter more

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail—you care about writing clean, functional code

  • Passionate about using technology to support mental health, recovery, or other social good

What You’ll Gain

  • Work on real product features that ship to real users

  • Collaborate directly with the founder and scientific lead on a high-impact, mission-driven product

  • Learn how a digital health MVP moves toward clinical validation and potential FDA clearance

  • Build a portfolio of contributions that can be showcased in future roles, applications, or writeups

  • Flexible, async-friendly workflow that respects your time and autonomy

About You

You’re a builder. You’re excited about the chance to contribute meaningful code to a mission-driven product from the ground up. You learn quickly, communicate clearly, and take ownership of your work. You care about getting things right—technically and ethically—and you want to be part of something that actually helps people. Whether you’ve shipped personal projects or worked on teams before, you’re ready to put your skills to work in a real, fast-moving product environment.

Compensation

  • $35/hour base rate, with potential increases to $40–$45/hour for contributions to advanced AI or core frontend modules.
